Centene Community Ice Rink opens in St. Louis

(Courtesy CCIC) The next generation of NHL practice facilities extends to a new outdoor concert venue in St. Louis, the home of the Blues, the 2019 Stanley Cup champions. A ceremonial ribbon cutting is set for Saturday to christen the Centene Community Ice Center, an $83.5 million complex in Maryland Heights, a St. Louis suburb. The 277,000-square-foot center has four ice rinks, one of which is an elevated, covered outdoor space that converts to a small amphitheater for summer shows. The model is somewhat similar to Daily’s Place, the 6,000-seat amphitheater that also serves as a practice field for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, and which connects to TIAA Bank Field, the team’s stadium. In St. Louis, Legacy Ice Foundation, a nonprofit formed to finance the project, signed a deal with Live Nation to book concerts in that space.
