2023 Women Of Live: Deirdre McCready
Executive Vice President, Sales & Special Events | Live Nation
Overseeing the special events business at Live Nation’s more than 150 venues across the U.S., Deirdre McCready has grown an important sector of the company’s business.
She has led the team growing the company’s corporate events business, with memorable events, including a Celine fashion show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles and an invitation-only performance by Lizzo for SiriusXM in Detroit.
“I’m so proud that our team hosted about 3,000 events last year,” said McCready, noting memorable events including a “Flippers World” Grammy event at the Hollywood Palladium honoring the 30th anniversary of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic album that turned the venue into a “roller-skating party with a high-profile guest list.” Meanwhile, the Celine fashion show included live entertainment from Iggy Pop, The Strokes and Interpol.
“We’re thrilled that we’re on pace for another record-setting year with more events than ever before,” McCready added. She says she’s excited about the division’s new Experience Packages rolling out at the company’s venues.
“We’re teaming up with amazing artists and celebrity chefs to take private events to the next level,” she said. “We’re already known for helping our clients host private concerts at our legendary venues but now we’re offering immersive culinary experiences.” She said the trend continues at outdoor events as well, with festival-style events taking place at the company’s amphitheaters and elevated culinary options.
Proud to note that her team is almost entirely female, McCready says it’s critical to continue to prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion in the industry.
“As someone who is passionate about creating opportunities, I believe it’s our responsibility to make space for the next generation of diverse leaders in senior leadership roles,” she said. “I’m committed to doing everything I can to support and mentor women at all levels of the industry by working together and championing the achievements.”
Although she has had many mentors, McCready said there are a couple of standouts.
“Barbara Brass, vice president at Wolfgang Puck, taught me the importance of showing respect and working hard. These lessons have stuck with me throughout my career, and I embody them in my work,” she said. “Another industry icon I look up to is Ali Harnell, president and chief strategy officer of Live Nation Women.”
